Studio E Architects is thrilled to announce that construction on High Tech Elementary North County – the next addition to our growing family of charter schools for High Tech High – is officially underway! Situated on the edge of the High Tech San Marcos Campus, Bycor General Contractors broke ground on the elementary school earlier this month.
In addition to distinctive classroom and administrative spaces designed to accommodate a maximum of 460 students, the school also includes a Commons – a multipurpose space that functions as the social heart of the school – which opens directly onto a large playground adjacent a central campus recreation area. The project also adds student gardens and an outdoor classroom to the campus’s wealth of student and faculty amenities.
Designed to be complementary with its Studio E-designed neighbors, High Tech High and High Tech Middle North County, the new school will employ the same tan-hued, rough-hewn concrete masonry walls and metal-clad, awning-covered corner & bay windows as its elder siblings. A compound pitched metal roof shelters the administrative/commons wing and is clad in a bright blue quilt of corrugated metal panels.
High Tech Elementary North County shares the same environmentally-friendly pedigree as its predecessors, and will be pursuing a LEED certification from the USGBC. The 31,474 square foot school will complete the master plan for the San Marcos campus, and is scheduled to open its doors to incoming students in 2014.
Stay tuned to this space for future updates!
